Notify 25 people by phone in 30 seconds--Free
This is a cool website-- I just used it today to call 15 people in my wife's church group. Just enter the phone numbers, click and it calls you at your house, record the message that you want people to hear, and hit "confirm" and off it goes. You have the option to schedule it for another time instead. It seems to make simultaneous calls to everyone on the list. In seconds you've given the same message to everyone.
When you set up your call, you have an option to require them to RSVP, and you can instantly see a status of the call to know if the service successfully dialed (didn't get a busy or no answer), and if you ask for an RSVP, you see what the responses are. Later, you can put a check next to the numbers that you want to send another message to, and you call again. And get this--you can even give the recipient an option to leave a message back for you, and you can see all of the responses online and listen to them.
It's all pretty slick, and a great deal considering it's free for up to 25 calls. If you have a bigger list, you could divide it into smaller 25 person lists, or pony up and pay for the calls. You can make a call to up to 2,000 people in one fell swoop at 5¢ per call. For example, 100 people called would cost you $5.
For friends and family notifications, and for small groups, the free service is more than enough. It seems to work great. It does put a very short plug on the front of your message, but if you pay, that goes away.
I hope they don't pull the free option once they get more popular!

What is it like to have a hallucination?
Here is a simple 20 second exercise to show you what it is like to have a hallucination. Don't follow this link if you have any reason to believe that you might have a seizure disorder of any kind.

Truckload of explosives goes "boom"
The semi was essentially "vaporized" according to an article I read.

Hard drive prices going to drop like a rock for this?
This is a pretty amazing story breaking. This company has a system that lets you put high, high capacity hard drives together with Lego-like "datapacs" that are virtually failure free, due to built in self-healing and redundancy.
I imagine we'll really start seeing the price of hard drives drop, now.

Not my thing, but gotta admire it anyway!
I can't help but be amazed that this guy can do pushups--on just his hands. Actually, let me explain a little better. When this guy does his fingertip pushups, his feet aren't even touching the floor.

Vocaloids: Technology starting to replace human voice
This is pretty incredible. Yamaha has developed technology to let you type in lyrics, and the computer will generate the singing. It actually sounds pretty good. I'm sure it won't be too many years and you'll have a hard time telling if it's human, or vocaloid.
I hate directing people to Myspace--I think it's the most unholy innovation to hit society, but it is a simple way to hear the vocaloid demo. Click on "Crazy" when you get there.
Another one is this video:

One guy, building stonehenge--by hand
This guy has a pretty unique hobby. Learning how to move huge things, by himself. One guy. He's done so much of this, he thinks it's probably how stonehenge was built.

Training birds to find money and give it to you
A friend of mine sent me this link. What a clever idea! These guys have started working on a kind of "vending machine" for crows. They find these useless pieces of metal laying around all day, but they really want food. Why not train them to give you the coins, and you give them a little food?

How to clean install Windoze with freeware
This looks like a neat set of programs to put on your machine, and how to do it, such that you end up with a lot of free software for doing what needs to get done.
I like it! It might (just kidding, brother) entice me to not go all Ubuntu like I planned.

I'm an idiot-- Mozy is still free!
Thanks to the fact that this blog is, apparently, searchable or viewable to the public, a person known only as "david" posted a comment to my post, pointing out that Mozy is, indeed, still free!
Click here to sign up or here as well. Those are both links that will give both you, and I, more backup space on Mozy, for free when you backup your files, after you've signed up. It's a good deal for both of us, and let me know if you want me to help you get it set up and running. I should be able to do it over the internet just by giving me a call and clicking this button
I don't know how that happened, that I thought they had discontinued the "free for home use" option. But I sure didn't see the link on their welcome page that I see there now!
Use it-- Mozy is the simplest, most carefree way to back up your most critical files.

Food to Eat to Get Vitamin X in Your Diet
Ever wonder what foods you should be eating to combat whatever illness you fear is lurking in your genes? This website, The Worlds Healthiest Foods, is where you want to go. Chock full of information on just about anything related to foods and what you get out of them.
So this isn't exactly a "techie" kind of link, but I guess it doesn't have to be. It's just something that I think is cool, and that's what I try to put here :)

I want one!
Open source, digital everything, all in one place. Get rid of your owld VHS tapes, home videos, etc. as this will record them all to your hard drive. Because it's Open Source, it is already being hacked and lots of new applications will follow.
